Katie Ann Haldeman is a Philadelphia native who holds a B.A. in Dance and English from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA and is currently pursuing an MFA in Dance from Temple University, in Philadelphia. Over the years, Katie has had the opportunity to perform works by notable choreographers such as Nicole Wolcott, Cathy Young, Melissa Chisena, Peter DiMuro, Duane Lee Holland, and Meredith Lyons. As well as works by local Philadelphia artists, such as Pamela Hetherington, Jenn Rose, and Liz Lyle.
Katie has performed work throughout Philadelphia and surrounding areas, as well as at the Bates Dance Festival in Maine.
Throughout the years, Katie has also had the opportunity to attend the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC, as well as the ADF Winter Intensive in NYC, the American College Dance Festival, in both 2012 and 2016, and Bates Dance Festival.
Aside from her passion in contemporary modern dance, Katie has always had a strong relationship with tap dance. She has most recently attended Tap City, where she had the chance to perform works by Derick K. Grant and Lynn Shwabb, and is currently a part of the American Tap Dance Foundation’s inaugural Tap Teacher Training Program in New York City.
Since beginning her teaching career, Katie has had the opportunity to choreograph for, and take pre-professional students to, regional and national performances, as well as Youth America Grand Prix, and to have her choreography shown around the Philadelphia area. She has had to opportunity to teach classes to students of all ages in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York. Whenever she gets the chance, Katie still loves to be a student herself, traveling to take master classes and attend workshops as both a dancer and teacher.
Aside from her teaching, Katie stays involved with the upcoming dancers by working alongside, director, Melissa Chisena at the Philadelphia Youth Dance Festival. Going into their 4rd year, the festival aims to bring young dancers together to experience dance as a whole. They are given the opportunity to take master classes from local artists, perform work, and to share their love of dance.
Katie is a member of Take it Away Productions, a primarily tap based company, and has performed with ECdancecohesion under the direction of Liz Lyle in the past.
As of late, Katie has begun to share her own work, with the premiere of katie ann haldeman dance, a contemporary modern dance company, which debuted in 2013. Their most recent endeavor was a performance in September 2015 entitled name it after Me. which explored the concepts of defining. name it after Me. premiered at The Pavilion at the Abington Art Center in Jenkintown, PA.
Katie is excited to announce that she will be sharing the bill with Kimberly D. Landle as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival in September 2016.
